With almost 80 km of cycle paths and 160 km of signposted cycle routes, cycling around the Baie de Somme is child’s play. From Saint-Valery-sur-Somme, several itineraries allow you to discover this unique natural site in Europe at your own pace. Here is our selection.
The Saint Valery sur Somme cycling circuit
This bike tour immerses you in thehistory of St-Valery-sur-Somme. Departing from the Corderies parking lot, it’s off on a 9 km family ride around the emblematic sites of this medieval Picardy town.
Be careful, it’s quite a climb! Expect around 1h10 of climbing and descending, with a few passages where you’ll have to put your foot down and push the bike.
On the program: cobbled streets, historic quarters, discovery of the quays and enchanting views over the estuary. Don’t miss: the Chapelle des Marins and its view of the Baie de Somme (watch out!).
Tip: as the circuit is unmarked, follow the GPX/KML trail. Be particularly careful at crossroads.
Discover three cycling loops around Saint Valery
From Saint-Valery-sur-Somme, there are three routes for cyclists who love the Baie de Somme, all easily accessible from our 4-star Le Walric campsite. We offer bike rentals in Saint Valery sur Somme !
A short walk (26 km) leads to the Pointe du Hourdel and its white and green lighthouse, which marks the entrance to the bay. The route follows the Picardy coastline and takes in the “Route Blanche”, a former departmental road along the dunes, now reserved for walkers, before returning to Saint-Valéry.
Two longer variants (38 and 49 km) offer a bucolic escapade through the hinterland and typical marshes of Picardie Maritime, as far as Cayeux-sur-Mer.
- Tip: don’t forget your binoculars to observe France’s largest seal colony, visible on the sandbanks off Cap Hourdel.

La Vélomaritime: from Saint Valery sur Somme to Fort-Mahon
The Baie de Somme is one of the essential stages of the Vélomaritime® (EuroVélo 4). From Saint-Valery-sur-Somme to Fort-Mahon, treat yourself to a unique cycling experience.
Pedal to Le Crotoy, cross the lock and enjoy the view from the Jules Noiret dike. If you’re lucky, you may even spot some calf seals. Continue along the greenway towards the Parc du Marquenterre, a favorite stopover for thousands of migratory birds. The cycle path then winds through dunes, pine forests and wet meadows before arriving at Fort-Mahon-Plage.
- Distance: 39 km, with virtually no relief along most of the route.
The Somme Canal Voie Verte: from Saint Valery to Abbeville
The Vallée de Somme cycle route (V30) links Saint-Valery-sur-Somme to Tergnier on a 200 km itinerary with the “Accueil Vélo” label.
Between the town of Valéricaine and Abbeville, gateway to the Baie de Somme, a 15 km greenway runs alongside the maritime canal on a well-developed, rolling towpath.
