Discover the Baie de Somme by steam train
The Chemin de fer de la Baie de Somme, a real tourist attraction for over 50 years, still attracts as many holidaymakers as ever. Immerse yourself in the atmosphere of Belle Époque rail travel on the tracks of theformer “Réseau des Bains de Mer”, created in the mid-19th century and rescued by enthusiasts.
As in the past, the train is pulled by a steam locomotive and travels at 25 km/h, leaving plenty of time to admire the scenery. Today, the train serves four stations: Le Crotoy, Noyelles-sur-Mer, Saint-Valery-sur-Somme and Cayeux-sur-Mer, where stopovers are possible.
Land & Sea” route: Saint-Valery-sur-Somme ↔ Le Crotoy
Embark on a unique journey between land and sea, departing from Saint-Valery-sur-Somme or Le Crotoy. The tourist train plunges you into the heart of the unspoilt landscapes of the Baie de Somme. You’ll cross the mollières, marshes and meadows where a variety of fauna has made its home: seabirds, salt meadow sheep, Henson horses…
It’s also an opportunity to visit two of the Baie de Somme’s must-see seaside resorts. At Le Crotoy, discover Picardy’s only south-facing beach. In Saint-Valery-sur-Somme, explore the hidden corners of the medieval city of William the Conqueror. Free time of at least two hours is provided.

Les Bas-Champs” trail Saint-Valery-sur-Somme ↔ Cayeux-sur-Mer
Discover the bas-champs along the route between Saint-Valery-sur-Somme and Cayeux-sur-Mer. This line was once used to transport goods such as pebbles, beet and chicory, which greatly contributed to the development of the resort of Cayeux-sur-Mer.
On arrival, let yourself be seduced by the pebble beach of Cayeux or immerse yourself in the history of the medieval town of Saint-Valery. Free time to visit the site before getting back on the train: 2 hours minimum.

Grand Large” course Le Crotoy ↔ Cayeux-sur-Mer
Discover the Baie de Somme in a different way with the “Grand Large” route between Le Crotoy and Cayeux-sur-Mer, and vice-versa. This trip combines the “Terre & Mer” and “Bas Champs” routes, and invites you to cover thewhole of the “Réseau des Bains de Mer”, 27 km across the Baie de Somme estuary.
At your terminus, you can visit the fishing and yachting harbor of Le Crotoy, or Cayeux-sur-Mer, famous for its two-kilometer-long boardwalk along the beach. Free time of at least two hours is provided.
