Sunday morning market: the most beautiful on the Bay of the Somme
Considered the finest in Picardy, the Saint-Valery market attracts crowds of regulars and visitors every Sunday morning . From butchers and market gardeners to bakers and florists, some sixty merchants and producers (up to 120 exhibitors in summer) set up their stalls on the Place des Pilotes and Quai du Romerel.
An unmissable event for locals and tourists alike, a feast for the taste buds… and the eyes, with a unique view of the Baie de Somme!
The colorful stalls, friendly shopkeepers and views over the bay make this market more than just a place to shop. Shopping here becomes a pleasure. While some linger over the stalls selling clothes, flowers and jewelry, others fill their baskets with fruit, vegetables, roast chicken, goat’s cheese, local honey and homemade jams.
Products are local and of excellent quality. Fish and seafood stands are particularly popular with holidaymakers. Special mention should be made of local specialties such as bisteu (a dish made with potatoes and salt-meadow lamb), ficelle picarde (a local delicacy ) andandouille(asmoked andouille sausage cooked in hay). Not forgetting the indisputable gâteau battu!
- Sunday: 8am to 1pm, on Place des Pilotes and along Quai du Romerel.
DID YOU KNOW? The St Valery sur Somme market has twice been selected, in 2018 and 2022, to take part in the “Plus Beau Marché de France” competition organized by TF1. On both occasions, the St Valery market was elected “Plus Beau Marché de Picardie”, winning 13th place in the national ranking in 2022.
